NEW YORK, July 9, 2024 – Burson, the global communications leader purpose-built to create value for clients through reputation, today announced two key new hires in its U.S. business on its ESG and growth teams.

Kasia Reterska, Head of U.S. Better Impact

With nearly two decades of experience in social impact strategy, sustainability, and governance advisory, Reterska has joined Burson to lead the agency’s team of ESG and social impact specialists, empowering brands and businesses to future proof their operations and better navigate some of today’s most pressing societal issues. Reterska joins Burson from Weber Shandwick, where she had been Executive Vice President, Social Impact and Sustainability. In that role, Kasia launched and led the agency’s global advisory of subject matter experts in Business & Society Futures, providing strategic counsel to C-suite executives on various aspects such as thought leadership, stakeholder expectations, policy and regulatory complexity, and value creation for multiple stakeholders. She joined in March.

Emily Portugal, Head of U.S. Growth

Portugal is an experienced growth leader with over 20 years of success in creating revenue-driving strategies, building profitable relationships, analyzing industry trends and leading interdisciplinary teams. Portugal joins Burson from Edelman, where she spent the last five and a half years in a variety of business development roles, most recently as Executive Vice President, Business Development, notably driving a 60 percent conversion rate on entrepreneurial opportunities in her first 24 months across prospects in food & beverage, technology, healthcare and financial services. Before Edelman she served in business development capacities with FCB Chicago and Pappageorge Haymes Partners. She joined Burson in June.

“Kasia and Emily are outstanding leaders with a deep understanding of the business imperative of building reputation for clients, whether by helping them manage the complexities of reporting responsibility metrics or by cutting to the heart of a potential client’s business challenge,” said Craig Buchholz, U.S. CEO, Burson. “They are both deeply committed to innovation, growth and team development. I’m delighted to have them in these roles as we move Burson forward.”
