Burson is seeking a strategic and digitally savvy Account Director, Digital to join our award-winning Health & Wellness practice. In this role, you will lead the development and execution of integrated digital communications programs for healthcare and pharmaceutical clients, with a strong focus on owned and earned social media, digital storytelling, content strategy, influencer engagement, and online community building.
As a key member of our digital team, you will serve as a trusted client counselor, helping brands navigate the rapidly evolving digital landscape and identify opportunities to engage patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, advocacy organizations, and broader stakeholder audiences through meaningful, insight-driven digital experiences.
The ideal candidate is passionate about healthcare communications, understands how content moves across digital channels, and has experience developing integrated social and digital campaigns that drive conversation, build community, and generate measurable business results.
What you'll do:

Lead the development and execution of integrated digital communications strategies with a primary focus on owned and earned social media channels, content ecosystems, and online engagement.

Counsel clients on best practices across social media, digital communications, influencer engagement, community management, and emerging digital platforms.

Develop social-first strategies that align with broader communications objectives, helping brands create content that resonates with patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, advocacy groups, and other key audiences.

Oversee the planning and execution of content programs across social channels, including editorial planning, platform strategy, content creation, and amplification opportunities.

Identify and cultivate partnerships with digital creators, patient advocates, influencers, and key opinion leaders to support awareness, engagement, and storytelling initiatives.

Collaborate closely with earned media, creative, strategy, analytics, and account teams to deliver fully integrated campaigns that connect paid, owned, shared, and earned communications efforts.

Guide social listening, community engagement, and audience intelligence efforts to uncover insights that inform strategy and content development.

Monitor and analyze campaign performance across digital and social channels, translating data into actionable recommendations and optimization opportunities.

Stay current on healthcare communications trends, platform innovations, algorithm changes, social best practices, and emerging technologies shaping the digital landscape.

Lead day-to-day client relationships while providing senior-level strategic counsel and identifying opportunities for account growth and innovation.

Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering collaboration, continuous learning, and digital excellence across the team.

Support new business efforts by contributing to proposals, thought leadership, digital audits, and integrated pitch opportunities.
Experience that contributes to success:
-
7+ years of experience in digital communications, social media, integrated marketing, or public relations, preferably within an agency environment.

Experience working with healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or health advocacy clients is required.

Deep expertise in owned and earned social media strategy, content development, community engagement, influencer programming, and digital communications.

Strong understanding of how social media, earned media, and digital content work together to build reputation, drive engagement, and support business objectives.

Demonstrated success leading integrated digital and social campaigns for healthcare or pharmaceutical brands.

Experience developing channel strategies across platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, and emerging social platforms.

Strong understanding of healthcare and pharmaceutical regulatory considerations within the digital and social media landscape.

Experience leveraging social listening, audience intelligence, and analytics tools to measure performance and inform strategic decision-making.

Proven ability to build and maintain senior-level client relationships while serving as a trusted strategic advisor.

Excellent presentation, communication, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into compelling digital narratives.

Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple client accounts simultaneously.
